Canadian Passenger Vehilcle Recalls

The Passenger Vehicle Recalls for December 2020 Are as Follows

  • AUDI Q7 2021

Issue: On certain vehicles, the crash sensors in the front doors could disconnect due to a defect with the sensor housings. If this happens, the airbag light will turn on. If this happens during a side-impact crash, the response from the restraint (airbag) system may be delayed.

Safety Risk: A delay in the activation of the side airbag, curtain airbag and/or seat belt pre-tensioner could create an increased risk of injury in a crash.

Corrective Actions: Audi will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the crash sensors in both front doors and replace them, if necessary.

  • HYUNDAI KONA EV 2019 2020 2021
  • HYUNDAI NEXO 2019 2020 2021

Issue: On certain vehicles, an abnormal sensor signal to the Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB) system could cause a sudden reduction in braking performance. If this happens, a brake warning light will turn on in the instrument cluster.

Safety Risk: Reduced brake performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the IEB system software. Recall Details

  • NISSAN SENTRA 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006

Issue: This recall is for certain vehicles that had an airbag inflator inspection as a part of Transport Canada Recall No. 2015-210, but the airbag inflator was not replaced. This recall will re-inspect the airbag inflator and provides a replacement of the inflator if needed. Long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high-temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function.

Safety Risk: If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury.

Corrective Actions: Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the passenger front airbag inflator.
Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected. Recall Details

  • HYUNDAI SANTA FE 2012
  • HYUNDAI SONATA 2011 2012 2013 2016
  • HYUNDAI VELOSTER 2015 2016

Issue: On certain vehicles equipped with a 1.6 L GDI, 2.0 L GDI, or 2.4 L MPI engine, the connecting rod bearings could wear prematurely. As a result, there could be an abnormal knocking noise from the engine and/or the oil pressure warning light may turn on. If you continue to drive the vehicle with worn connecting rod bearings, the engine could fail. An engine failure would cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. In some cases, a damaged connecting rod could puncture the engine block and cause an oil leak.
Note: For the Sonata model, only the Sonata Hybrid is affected by this recall.
Additional Note: Engine compartment fires can happen for many different reasons. In some cases, there is too much damage to find the cause of a fire.

Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Oil that leaks onto a hot component could cause a fire.

Corrective Actions: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer for an engine inspection test, to determine if there is bearing damage. If damage is found, the engine will be replaced. Dealers will also update the software for the engine control module.
Note: Hyundai recommends that you should always follow the correct vehicle maintenance schedule, which is printed in the Owner’s Manual. Recall Details

Issue: Long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high-temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function.

  • KIA SOUL 2014 2015
  • KIA SPORTAGE 2012

Issue: On certain vehicles equipped with a 2.0 L NU GDI or 2.4 L Theta II MPI engine, an engine compartment fire could occur while driving. Kia is conducting this recall as a preventative measure to prevent fire risk due to potential fuel leaks, oil leaks and/or engine damage. In some situations, you may notice any of the following symptoms: there could be an abnormal knocking noise from the engine; the check engine light and/or the oil pressure warning light could turn on; you may smell fuel, burning or smoke; or you may notice oil leaks. If you continue to drive the vehicle with these symptoms, the engine could fail and/or a fire could occur. An engine failure can cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart.
Note: For the Optima model, only the Optima Hybrid is affected by this recall.

Safety Risk: An engine compartment fire can create a risk of injury. A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions: Kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer for an inspection of the engine and engine compartment. The dealer will inspect for fuel and/or engine oil leaks, perform an engine test and make any repairs, including engine replacement, if necessary. Kia will also perform a Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) software update free of charge, once it is available for your vehicle. This update will detect and prevent engine damage from worn connecting rod bearings. Recall Details

  • MERCEDES-BENZ A CLASS 2019

Issue: On a small number of vehicles, the compliance label and tire pressure placard may not have been installed. As a result, information such as vehicle load capacity and tire inflation pressure may not be easily accessible. This could lead you to inflate the tires incorrectly. Driving a vehicle with tires that are overinflated or underinflated could cause poor handling and/or a tire failure.

Safety Risk: Tires that are not properly inflated could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer for an inspection. The dealer will install the missing label(s), as necessary. Recall Details

  • FORD MUSTANG 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020

Note: This equipment recall only affects the following brake pedal and bracket assembly part numbers:
FR3Z-2455-AA
FR3Z-2455-AB

Safety Risk: A loss of brakes can create the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions: Ford will notify its dealers of this recall. While dealers will attempt to contact people who may have purchased a part affected by this recall, if you have had the brake pedal and bracket assembly replaced on your car, you should contact the dealer that sold or installed it to find out if it is affected by this recall. Any part that is affected by this recall will be replaced, free of charge. Recall Details

  • NISSAN TITAN 2020
  • NISSAN TITAN XD 2020

Issue: On certain trucks equipped with a gasoline engine, the engine wiring harness (EGI) may not have been assembled correctly. As a result, an exposed wire could cause a short circuit. If this happens, the engine could stall and/or there could be electrical arcing.

Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Electrical arcing could damage surrounding material and increase the risk of a fire.

Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to inspect the EGI harness and replace it with a new one if it is damaged. If no damage is found, the harness will be reassembled correctly. Recall Details

  • INFINITI M35 HYBRID 2012 2013
  • INFINITI M56 2011 2012 2013

Issue: On certain vehicles, the propeller shaft (driveshaft) could break while driving and cause a loss of power to the wheels. In severe cases, a propeller shaft failure could also damage the parking brake. If this happens, there may be no way to stop movement of the vehicle when it is parked. This could allow the vehicle to roll away.

Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels or a vehicle rollaway could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the propeller shaft. Recall Details
