The Passenger Vehicle Recalls for November, 2018 are as Follows

  • ACURA MDX 2018 2019
  • HONDA HR-V 2018
  • HONDA ODYSSEY 2018 2019

Certain vehicles may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 135 – Light Vehicle Brake Systems. A problem with the rear brake system may cause gas bubbles to form in the brake fluid. This could cause a soft brake pedal feel and a reduction in brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will bleed the rear brakes. Recall Details

  • SCION FR-S 2013

On certain vehicles, the engine valve springs could fracture, causing an engine failure or a stall with an inability to restart. This could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will replace the engine valve springs. Note: A driver may notice abnormal noise and/or vibration prior to an engine failure or stalling. Recall Details

  • KIA FORTE 2019

Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 108 – Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. The LED headlamps may have been produced with improper low-beam lamp aiming, which is contrary to the requirements of the standard. This could reduce illumination of the roadway, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the headlamps and replace them as necessary. Recall Details

  • SUBARU LEGACY 2018
  • SUBARU OUTBACK 2018

On certain vehicles, the low fuel warning light may not turn on at the correct time to warn of a low fuel level. The driving range indicator in the multi-information display may also indicate a remaining distance-to-empty when the fuel tank is empty. While the low fuel warning light will eventually turn on and the fuel gauge will eventually display “E” (empty), if the driver continues to operate the vehicle based on the range indicator, the vehicle may run out of fuel, causing the engine to stall and increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will reprogram the combination meter (gauge cluster) software. Note: Until the recall repair is completed, drivers should ensure to refill the fuel tank before the fuel level is close to empty. Recall Details

  • SUBARU BRZ 2013
  • SUBARU IMPREZA 2012 2013 2014
  • SUBARU XV CROSSTREK 2013

Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 – Occupant Protection in Frontal Impacts and CMVSS 214 – Side Impact Protection. The airbag (SRS) control unit may incorrectly detect a fault in one or more of the front or side airbag impact sensors during vehicle start up. In the event of a crash where airbag deployment is required, this may result in the airbags not deploying as designed, increasing the risk of injury. Upon detection of a fault in the airbag system, multiple warning lights would activate, a warning buzzer would sound, and a warning message would display on the instrument panel display.

Correction: Dealers will update the airbag control unit software. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2018-100. Vehicles repaired as part of the previous recall will require re-inspection and repair. Recall Details

  • VOLVO S90 2017 2018 2019
  • VOLVO V60 2019
  • VOLVO V60CC 2019
  • VOLVO V90 2017 2018 2019
  • VOLVO V90CC 2017 2018 2019
  • VOLVO XC40 2018 2019
  • VOLVO XC60 2018 2019
  • VOLVO XC90 2017 2018 2019

On certain vehicles, the Telematics and Driver Support Systems may not function as designed due to a software error. In the event of a crash, this could mean that the Emergency Assist system would not alert Volvo and provide the GPS coordinates of the vehicle. This could create a risk of no response from emergency services.

Correction: Dealers will update vehicle software. Recall Details

  • HONDA ODYSSEY 2018

On certain vehicles, the rear latch assemblies on the power sliding doors may stick. This could cause a door not to close fully, and in certain circumstances, the door may open unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion. This could create a risk of injury to the occupants.

Correction: Dealers will replace the rear latch assemblies on both sliding doors. In the interim, until vehicles can be completely repaired, dealers will disable the power opening and closing functions to prevent a door from opening unexpectedly. Recall Details

  • AUDI A3 2018
  • AUDI RS3 2018
  • VOLKSWAGEN E-GOLF 2018
  • VOLKSWAGEN GOLF R 2018

On certain vehicles, the rear seat head restraint guides may not have been properly welded to the seat frame. In a crash, the rear seat head restraints may not remain in place, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the rear seat frame, and if the head restraint guide sleeve welds are found to be insufficient, it will be replaced. Recall Details

  • FORD EXPEDITION 2018
  • LINCOLN NAVIGATOR 2018

On certain vehicles, the seat track for the second row centre seat may be missing one or both reinforcement brackets. In the event of a crash, an occupant in that seat may not be properly restrained, which could increase the risk of injury.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the second row centre seat to determine if both reinforcement brackets are installed. If one or both brackets are missing, dealers will replace the centre seat frame assembly. Note: In the interim, owners are advised to adjust the second row centre seat to its full rearward position until the recall inspection or repairs are completed. Recall Details

  • FORD EXPLORER 2018

On certain vehicles, the fuel pressure sensor may not have been properly assembled and could cause a fuel leak. A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, could create the risk of a fire causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel line assembly. Recall Details

  • HONDA CIVIC 2017 2018

On certain vehicles, the owner’s manual may not have been provided, or an incorrect manual was provided. This would result in an owner not having written information required by the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations. If important safety information is not available to the owner, such as information regarding child restraint anchorage use, there could be an increased risk of injury in a crash.

Correction: Honda will mail the correct owner’s manual to all affected owners. Recall Details

  • AUDI Q5 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012
  • AUDI Q7 2009 2010 2011 2012

Certain vehicles with a cracked (but not leaking) fuel pump flange were repaired with butyl tape only under a previous recall (please see Transport Canada Recall 2016-443 / Audi campaign 20W9). This is because replacement fuel pump flanges were not available at the time of repair (the butyl tape was used an interim repair). If the fuel pump flange is not replaced, a fuel leak could still occur. A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, could lead to a fire causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will replace fuel pump flange and reapply the protective butyl tape. Recall Details

  • VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS 2018 2019
  • VOLKSWAGEN JETTA 2019
  • VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN 2018 2019

Certain vehicles do not to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 114 – Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention. Due to incorrect programming, the vehicle may fail to provide an audible warning when a driver opens their door after turning off the ignition, and the key is left in the ignition switch. This could increase the risk of vehicle theft.

Correction: Dealers will reprogram the instrument cluster. Recall Details

  • MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER 2500 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014
  • MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER 3500 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014

On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury.

Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag module. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected. Recall Details

  • RAM 1500 2019

On certain vehicles equipped with a manually-operated front passenger seat, the seat track sensor could be loose and/or out of position. If the seat is in the full forward position, this could affect the way the air bag deploys in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.

Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace the seat track position sensor bracket if necessary. Recall Details

  • MERCEDES-BENZ C CLASS 2018

On certain C 63 models, a locknut in the steering rack may be defective. If the nut fails, the steering could become stuck, which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will replace the steering rack. Recall Details

  • MERCEDES-BENZ C CLASS 2018 2019
  • MERCEDES-BENZ GLC CLASS 2018 2019

On certain vehicles equipped with an Audio 20 head unit and automatic child seat recognition, the status of the passenger airbag may not be displayed correctly. For example, the display may indicate that an airbag is turned off when it is not. This could create a situation where a child or small-statured occupant is inadvertently placed in front of an active airbag. This could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Correction: Dealers will update the audio head unit software. Recall Details

  • MERCEDES-BENZ C CLASS 2018

On certain coupe and cabriolet models, the switches that detect if a seat belt is buckled may not function properly. This could cause a buckled seat belt to be incorrectly detected as unbuckled. In the event of a crash, this could cause the seat belt tensioning system not to work as designed, increasing the risk of injury.

Correction: Dealers will replace the affected seat belt buckles. Recall Details

  • MERCEDES-BENZ METRIS 2016 2017

On certain vehicles, fuel may weep or leak from one of the lower connecting points of the fuel hose. If this occurs, a fuel odour may be detected inside the vehicle. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will replace the hose and clamp at the lower connecting point of the transition hose, between the underbody fuel line and the Schrader valve, and replace the hose at the upper connection of the fuel line to the fuel pump. Recall Details

  • MERCEDES-BENZ GLC CLASS 2019

On certain vehicles, a sensor failure in the electric power steering unit could cause a loss of power steering assist. This would result in a sudden, unexpected increase in steering effort, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will replace the steering unit. Recall Details
