The Passenger Vehicle Recalls for June 2017, are as Follows

  • BMW 5 Series (2013, 2014)
  • On certain vehicles equipped with a V6 engine, the crankshaft rotor may have been produced with an anti-corrosion coating that is too thick. This could cause interference with the crank position sensor, potentially causing the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will replace the crank position sensor with one of an improved design. Recall Details

  • Toyota Tacoma (2016)

On certain vehicles, the rivet connections for the constant velocity (CV) joint of the rear driveshaft may have insufficient durability. Over time, this could cause the CV joint to break, resulting in a loss of propulsion which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

Correction: Dealers will replace the CV joint. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2017-049. Recall Details

  • Mazda RX-8 (2004)

On certain vehicles, the ball joint socket area on the front lower control arm may become cracked due to an inappropriate manufacturing process of the ball joint. If a large load is applied to the suspension while driving, the ball joint may suddenly separate from the socket, which could result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will replace the lower control arms with modified parts. Recall Details

  • Mazda RX-8  (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008)

On certain vehicles, the fuel pump discharge pipe may crack and cause a fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire, increasing the risk of injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel filter body with an improved part. Recall Details

  • Mercedex-Benz Sprinter 2500, Sprinter 3500 (2016)

On certain vehicles, the tire pressure label on the B-pillar may not contain the correct front axle tire pressure information. Incorrect tire pressure could lead to tire failure, resulting in loss of vehicle control increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

  • Hyundai Santa Fe Sport (2017, 2018)

On certain vehicles, the bolt which fastens the driver’s seat belt anchor to the vehicle’s inner sill structure may not have been tightened to specification during assembly. This could result in the driver’s seat belt possibly detaching from the anchor point. If the vehicle were to be involved in a collision, and the seat belt were to detach, it could increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant.

Correction: Dealers will verify the proper connection between the driver’s seat belt anchor and to the vehicle’s inner sill structure. Recall Details

  • Hyundai Santa Fe, Santa Fe Sport (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017)

On certain vehicles, the cable between the actuating lever for the secondary hood latch and the secondary latch may become corroded over time. This could cause the secondary hood latch to remain in the open position when the hood is closed. If the vehicle were to be driven with the primary hood latch disengaged, or primary hood latch is released while driving, the secondary hood latch may not hold the hood closed while the vehicle is in motion. If this were to occur, it could compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, as well as cause damage to the windshield. These issues could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

Correction: Dealers will replace the secondary hood latch cable. Recall Details

  • Volvo XC90 (2017)

On certain vehicles, the crimping of the tube for the Micro Gas Generator (MGG) in the 3rd row passengers side seat belt retractor was not manufactured to specification. In the event of a crash that warrants the activation of the seat belt pretensioner, the MGG squib may detach and be propelled out of the tube.

Correction: Dealers will replace the 3rd row passenger’s side seatbelt retractor. Recall Details

  • Hyundai Genesis (2015, 2016)

On certain vehicles equipped with a manual parking brake, the electrical switch which illuminates the parking brake warning light in the instrument cluster could become corroded. This could result in the parking brake warning light intermittently not illuminating when the parking brake is applied. A failure of the parking brake indicator to illuminate when the parking brake is applied can result in a driver misapplication of the parking brake, which may cause the following conditions: effect on vehicle acceleration, parking brake noise and/or parking brake “drag” and smoke and/or smell from driving with the applied parking brake.

Correction: Dealers will replace the parking brake switch with a switch that revised contact material. Recall Details

  • Chrysler Pacifica (2017)

On certain Plug-in Hybrid Electric (“PHEV”) vehicles, the Power Inverter Module diodes could fail, resulting in loss of motive power without warning. A loss of motive power, while a vehicle is in motion, could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

Correction: Dealers will remedy the affected components. Recall Details

  • Dodge Grand Caravan (2011, 2012)

On certain vehicles, an electrical short could occur in the steering wheel wiring harness, which could result in an inadvertent deployment of the driver frontal airbag. Unintended airbag deployment, in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, could startle the driver, which could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the steering wheel wiring and replace it as necessary. A protective covering will also be installed on the wiring harness. Recall Details

  • Buick Envision (2017)

Certain vehicles may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 202 – Head Restraints. The optional Universal Tablet Holder accessory may have been incorrectly installed on front seat head restraints, which may prevent the head restraint posts from fully engaging in the seat back. A head restraint that is not fully engaged in the seat back could loosen and dislodge, or inadvertently move to an undesired height which may provide insufficient head and neck support, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant in a crash, and would fail to comply with the requirements of the standard.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the head restraints and tablet holders for correct installation and reinstall if necessary. GM will also mail corrected installation instructions to customers who purchased the Universal Tablet Holder over the counter for installation on their own vehicles. Recall Details

  • BMW 7 Series (2018)

On certain vehicles equipped with a V12 engine, an incorrect engine cooler line may have been installed and could cause an oil leak during engine operation. If the oil cooler line leaks, oil could contact a front brake disc, or the road surface, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will replace the engine oil cooler line. Recall Details

  • BMW 7 Series (2013, 2014)

Certain vehicles may have had a replacement/spare part left rear tail lamp installed during a dealer service visit which did not contain a rear reflex reflector, thus failing to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 108 – Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. This could reduce vehicle conspicuity which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the left rear tail lamp assembly, and if necessary, replace the unit with one that includes a reflex reflector. Recall Details

  • Jaguar XJ (2010, 2011)

On certain vehicles, due to a Restraint Control Module (RCM) software update error, the airbags may not deploy as intended in the event of a frontal impact. Failure of the airbags to deploy during a collision that warrants airbag deployment could increase the risk of injury to the occupants.

Correction: Dealers will update the RCM with the latest software. Recall Details

  • Mazda 3 (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017)
  • Mazda 6 (2012, 2013, 2014)
  • On certain vehicles equipped with hand-operated parking brakes, the rear brake caliper protective boot on the parking brake system may not perform as intended, causing the parking brake actuator shaft to corrode. Over time, the actuator shaft may become stuck in the brake caliper body which could lead to decreased parking brake holding force or cause the parking brake to drag while driving. Decreased parking brake holding force could cause the vehicle to roll away if parked on a slope which would increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property.

  • Correction: Dealers will inspect and repair or replace the rear caliper assemblies as necessary. Recall Details

  • Ford Transit (2015, 2016, 2017)

On certain vans, chassis cabs and cutaway chassis’, the driveline operating angle may affect the long term durability of the flexible coupling between the transmission and driveshaft. If the flexible coupling were to crack, it would result in vibration and noise from underneath the vehicle. Continued driving with a cracked flex coupling may cause separation of the driveshaft, resulting in a loss of motive power while driving, or unintended vehicle movement in Park without the parking brake applied. In addition, separation of the driveshaft from the transmission can result in damage to surrounding components, including brake and fuel lines. A loss of motive power may increase the risk of a crash, and unintended vehicle movement may result in property damage and/or injury to bystanders.

Correction: As an interim remedy, for vehicles with more than 48,000kms, dealers will replace the driveshaft flexible coupling every 48,000kms until the final repair is available. Upon the final remedy being available, dealers will either install a redesigned flexible coupling, modified driveshaft bracket and shield, or revised driveshaft equipped with a universal joint. Note: Cutaway chassis’ with a 156″ or 178″ wheelbase are not involved in this campaign. Recall Details

  • Audi Q3 (2016, 2017)

Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 108 – Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. If the parking brake is used during emergency braking, the brake lights on the vehicle will not activate. Following road users would be unaware of the emergency braking that is taking place, which could increase the risk of a rear-end crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will update vehicle software to correct the non-compliance. Recall Details

  • Honda Odyssey (2018)

Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 – Occupant Protection in Frontal Impacts. During vehicle assembly, an outer seat belt position seat belt tongue may have been incorrectly installed onto the third row seating centre seat belt assembly. This would result in the seat belt tongue not latching when inserted in the centre seat belt buckle, and therefore would be non-compliant with the standard. In the event of a crash, an unlatched seatbelt may increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the third row centre seat belt for the correct tongue and replace as necessary. Recall Details

  • Lexus ES 350 (2013, 2014)

On certain vehicles, a lock nut that secures the right-hand side tie rod assembly to the steering gear assembly may not have been tightened properly during the assembly process. Over time, this could cause the lock nut to loosen which could cause the vehicle to drift left and right and eventually cause the tie rod to separate for the steering gear assembly, resulting in a loss of steering control. This situation could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the right hand side tie rod lock nut. If the nut is found to be loose, Dealer will replace the lock nut, steering gear assembly and the tie rod assembly. Recall Details

  • Chevrolet Silverado (2014)
  • GMC Sierra (2014)

Certain vehicles may experience a temporary loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist followed by a sudden return of EPS assist, particularly during low-speed turning manoeuvres due to an electrical/software issue. If EPS assist is lost and suddenly returned, the unexpected change in steering effort could affect vehicle control, which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will update the EPS module software. Note: If power steering assist is lost and the vehicle reverts to manual steering, a dash message would be displayed stating there is an EPS problem. Additionally, this issue could also affect radio, stabilitrak, the driver information centre, chime, door-lock, air conditioning, and/or cruise control function. Recall Details

  • Honda Accord (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016)

On certain vehicles, the case for the battery sensor may have been improperly manufactured with gaps that could allow for moisture intrusion. If moisture or road salt were to enter the battery sensor case, it could result in corrosion to the sensor, which could cause an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire causing injury and/or property damage.

Correction: Dealers will inspect, and replace the battery sensor as necessary. Recall Details

  • Honda CRV (2007, 2008)

Certain vehicles may have received an incorrect wiring harness for the passenger frontal airbag inflator during a previous recall repair (Transport Canada recall 2017-009). This could affect the proper function of the passenger frontal airbag, which could increase the risk of injury to the front passenger occupant.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the passenger frontal airbag inflator to see if the correct wire harness was installed and, if necessary, replace the inflator and the wire harness with new parts. Recall Details
