Canadian Automotive Recalls for March, 2019 – Passenger Vehicles

No one likes to hear that their vehicle has a safety recall notice. They’re unpredictable, unsettling, and can happen at any time. Below you’ll find our March, 2019 summary of passenger vehicle recalls. We’ll be publishing this list at the end of each month, so check back again. The Passenger Vehicle Recalls for March, 2019 are as Follows

  • BMW C600 SPORT 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018
  • BMW C650GT 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018

On certain motorcycles, the front brake hose could crack and leak. This could cause a reduction or loss of front braking. Note: This does not affect the rear brake. Safety Risk: A reduction or loss of front brakes could increase stopping distances and create the risk of a crash. 

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their motorcycle to a dealer to have the front brake hose replaced.   Recall Details


  • RAM 1500 2019

On one truck equipped with a 48-volt auxiliary battery system, the battery terminal connection may be loose. This could cause the connection to overheat and potentially cause a fire. The 48-volt battery is located behind the rear seat. Note: This could occur even if the truck is turned off. Safety Risk: A fire could increase the risk of injury and/or property damage.

Correction: The company will notify the owner by mail. The owner will be instructed to take their truck to a dealer inspect and tighten the 48-volt auxiliary battery connections, as required. Recall Details


  • CHRYSLER PACIFICA 2018

On certain vehicles, the right-front lower control arm ball joint could separate from the steering knuckle. This could cause a loss of steering control. Safety Risk: A loss of steering control could create the risk of a crash. 

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the right-front steering knuckle and lower control arm inspected for damage. The parts will be replaced as needed. Dealers will also replace the right-front steering knuckle pinch bolt with a larger-diameter bolt. Recall Details


  • MERCEDES-BENZ A CLASS 2019

On certain cars, the adaptive high-beam assist system may not function as intended. The camera software may not perform to specifications and automatically lower the light beams when oncoming traffic is detected. Note: The high-beams can be turned off by turning the light switch to “manual light” mode. Safety Risk: If a driver is unable to turn off the high-beams, the increased glare for other traffic could increase the risk of a crash.

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their car to a dealer for a software update for the adaptive high-beam-assist system. Recall Details

On certain vehicles, the brake lamp switch could fail. This would cause the brake lamps not to turn on when the brakes are applied. Depending on the model, this could cause an inability to shift from park or to start using the push-button ignition. This may also cause problems with the following: anti-lock brake system (ABS), vehicle dynamics control (VDC), and/or Eyesight system. Safety Risk: If the brake lights do not work, a following driver may not to recognize that a vehicle ahead is braking, increasing the risk of crash.

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the brake lamp switch replaced. Recall Details


  • KIA SEDONA 2015 2016 2017 2018

On certain vehicles, the wiring for the Occupant Detection System (ODS) could break. This would cause the airbag system to not turn off the airbag when an infant or child is seated in the front passenger seat. This problem only affects vehicles with a manual front-passenger seat. Safety Risk: In a crash, an airbag that deploys in front of an infant or child increases the risk of injury. 

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to remove a wiring harness clip. This will prevent the wire from breaking. If the wiring is found damaged, the dealer will replace the front passenger seat cushion. Note: If the wiring breaks, the SRS airbag warning light will come on and the “Passenger Airbag Off” indicator will not turn on. Recall Details

On certain vehicles, the rear suspension coil springs may not have been properly manufactured and could break over time. This could cause damage to a rear tire, resulting in rapid air loss and/or tire failure. Safety Risk: A rear tire failure could affect vehicle control. Additionally, a broken coil spring could also create a road hazard for other motorists. Both of these conditions may increase the risk of a crash.

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have both of the rear axle coil springs replaced. If a broken coil spring is found, the rear tires should be inspected for damage and replaced as required. Recall Details


  • RAM 1500 2019

On some vehicles equipped with adjustable pedals, the brake pedal could detach when it is adjusted. This could cause a loss of brakes. Safety Risk: A loss of brakes can create a risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail.

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to repair the adjustable pedal assembly. Drivers should not adjust the pedals until the vehicle is fixed. The pedals should never be adjusted while driving. Recall Details

  • GMC TERRAIN 2019

On certain vehicles, the head-restraint bracket of the rear-right seat may be not be properly welded. This could allow the head-restraint to move in a crash. Safety Risk: A head-restraint that does not stay in place during a crash could create an increased risk of injury.

Correction:  The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the rear-right seatback frame replaced.  Recall Details

On certain vehicles, there could be a problem with the driver-front airbag inflator. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, pieces could be propelled toward the occupants. This could also cause damage to the airbag assembly and prevent it from inflating properly. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles that had a Takata airbag inflator installed during a previous airbag recall or collision repair. Safety Risk: In a crash where the airbag deploys, there could be an increased risk of injury. 

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the driver-front airbag inflator replaced.. Recall Details

Hyundai Auto Canada is conducting a Product Improvement Campaign that provides an update to the engine control module to detect potential problems before an engine fails. An engine failure would cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident. 

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the engine control module. Note: Vehicles repaired under Service Campaigns, C0336, C0344, or C0347, already have this software update. Recall Details


  • JEEP WRANGLER 2019
  • RAM 1500 2019

On certain vehicles, the steering shaft may not have been properly manufactured. This could cause it to separate and cause a loss of steering control. Safety Risk: A loss of steering control could create the risk of a crash. 

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect, and if necessary, replace the steering column assembly. Recall Details

On certain vehicles, the instrument cluster may not work. Safety Risk: An instrument cluster that does not work may prevent an operator from receiving information regarding the status of vehicle systems. This could increase the risk of a crash.

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the instrument cluster software updated. Recall Details

On certain 5-door cars, when the rear defroster is switched on, the rear glass may develop hot spots. Safety Risk: A person that comes in contact with hot spots on the rear glass could have an increased risk of a burn injury. 

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their car to a dealer to have the rear glass replaced. Recall Details

On certain vehicles, the rear fog lamps may not turn on when they are switched on. Safety Risk: Rear fog lamps that do not turn on could decrease the vehicle’s visibility and increase the risk of a crash.

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software settings in the body controller. Recall Details

  • KIA SPORTAGE 2011 2012 2013

On certain vehicles, the brake warning light does not turn on when the electronic brake force distribution system malfunctions. This could cause a driver to be unaware of a problem with the brake system.

Safety Risk: A driver that is not aware of a problem with the brake system could lose control of the vehicle during emergency braking. This could cause an increased risk of a crash.

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the engine control module. Note: Vehicles repaired under Service Campaign SC025 already have this software update. Recall Details


  • HYUNDAI VELOSTER 2013

Issue: On certain cars, a problem with the engine computer software could cause engine damage or an engine failure. An engine failure would cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Note: This problem only affects cars equipped with a 1.6 L turbocharged engine.

Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. In some cases, an engine failure may also result in a fire.

Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the engine management software. Recall Details


  • VOLVO S90 2018 2019
  • VOLVO XC60 2018 2019

Issue: On certain vehicles, the front seat rails may not be properly attached. As a result, the seats may move in a crash.

Safety Risk: A seat that moves in a crash could create an increased risk of injury.

Correction:The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a BMW dealer to have the bolts for the driver’s seat and seat belt inspected and tightened, as required. Recall Details


  • NISSAN ALTIMA 2019

Issue: On certain vehicles, the brake light switch may not be in the correct position. This would result in the brake lamps staying on at all times. This could also allow the transmission to be shifted out of the park (P) position without applying the brakes.

Safety Risk: Shifting out of park without applying the brakes could cause unintended vehicle movement. If the brake lights stay on, a following driver may not recognize when a vehicle ahead is braking. Either of these outcomes could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the brake pedal assembly. The assembly will be replaced as required. Recall Details


  • ACURA MDX 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019

On certain vehicles, the red brake wear warning light does not come on when the brake pads are worn out. This could increase the risk of the vehicle being driven with worn out brake pads. Note: A yellow warning message will be displayed if the brake pads wear out. Safety Risk: Driving a vehicle with worn out brake pads could increase the risk of a crash.

Correction: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the instrument cluster software. Recall Details


  • PORSCHE CAYENNE 2019
  • PORSCHE PANAMERA 2017 2018
  • PORSCHE PANAMERA E-HYBRID 2018
  • PORSCHE PANAMERA TURBO 2017 2018

Issue: On certain vehicles, water could enter the tail lamps located on the tailgate. This could cause the tail lamps not to work properly. This could also cause a fuse to blow, which could result in a complete loss of rear lighting.

Safety Risk: A loss of rear lighting could make the vehicle less visible and increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the tailgate lid lamps. If either lamp is not working, the dealer will replace both lamps and inspect/replace the fuse. If both tailgate lid lamps are working, the dealer will modify the lamps, and install updated gaskets and wiring. Recall Details


  • VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN 2019

Issue: The compliance label may list the wrong tire size and recommended tire inflation pressures. Using a tire that is not properly inflated, or that is the wrong size, could cause a tire failure or result in poor driving performance.

Safety Risk: A tire failure could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect and replace the compliance label as required. Recall Details


  • JEEP CHEROKEE 2019

Issue: On certain vehicles, the front-passenger seat mounts may not have been properly tightened.

Safety Risk: A seat that moves in a crash could result in an increased risk of injury.

Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect and, as necessary, tighten the front-passenger seat mounting fasteners. Recall Details
