Issue: On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high-temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Note: This is a new recall campaign that includes vehicles that had an airbag inflator replaced under a previous recall or had a replacement airbag installed. The previous recall provided an interim (short-term) repair. Interim repair parts must be replaced with the final repair parts provided in this recall.

Safety Risk: If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury.

Corrective Action: Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the driver and/or passenger front airbag inflator. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected. Recall Details

  • MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER 2019
  • MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER 2500 2019
  • MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER 3500 2019
  • MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER 4500 2019

Issue: Certain vans were built with the wrong type of glass in one or both of the rear-side windows. Tempered glass was used in place of laminated glass. As a result, the vehicles may not meet the ejection mitigation requirements of the Canadian regulations.

Safety Risk: Vans built with incorrect side window glass could create a risk of ejection and injury in a rollover or side-impact crash.

Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their van to a dealer to replace the tempered window glass with laminated glass. Recall Details

  • BMW 7 SERIES 2020
  • BMW X5 2019
  • BMW X7 2019

Issue: On certain vehicles, the high-pressure fuel pumps (HPFP) may have been attached to the cylinder head incorrectly. Over time, this could cause the flange of the HPFP to crack. This could result in a fuel leak in the engine compartment.

Safety Risk: A fuel leak in the engine compartment could increase the risk of a fire.

Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the high-pressure fuel pumps. Recall Details

  • MAZDA MAZDA3 2019

Issue: The material on the driver and front passenger seatbacks may not be installed correctly. This could cause it to interference with the release button for the head restraint. As a result, the button could be stuck in the ‘release’ position and allow the head restraint to move up and down freely. In a crash, this could allow the head restraint to detach.

Safety Risk: A head restraint that does not remain in place in a crash could create a risk of injury.

Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealership to install a plastic spacer at the bottom of the head restraint lock release button. Recall Details

  • FORD FOCUS 2012 2013 2014

Issue: On certain vehicles repaired under recall 2018-577 (Ford Recall #18S32), the software for the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) was not properly updated. As a result, a second repair is required. The software allows the PCM to detect a Canister Purge Valve (CPV) that is not working properly. A CPV that is not working properly could cause a malfunction indicator light (MIL) to turn on in the instrument cluster, erratic readings on the fuel gauge, and/or the engine may stall. Note: Owners are advised to keep their fuel level above half-full until the recall repairs are completed.

Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software. Recall Details

  • FORD RANGER 2019

Issue: On certain Ranger SuperCab models, the front passenger seat belt may not be assembled correctly.

Safety Risk: An improperly assembled seat belt may not properly restrain a passenger in a crash. This could increase the risk of injury.

Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their truck to a dealer to inspect the front passenger seat belt. It will be replaced if necessary. Recall Details

  • VOLKSWAGEN CC 2015 2016
  • VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN 2015 2016

Issue: On certain vehicles, the airbag control unit may contain a defective capacitor. If the capacitor fails, it could result in deployment of the airbags and/or seat belt pretensioners without a crash. This could also cause the airbag system to not deploy in the event of a crash.

Safety Risk: Airbags or seat belt pretensioners that deploy without a crash could create a risk of injury and also increase the risk of a crash. Airbags that do not deploy in a crash could create an increased risk of injury.

Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to have updated airbag control unit software installed and, if necessary, the airbag control unit will be replaced. Recall Details

  • GENESIS G80 2018
  • GENESIS G90 2017 2018

Issue: On certain vehicles with a 3.3-litre turbocharged engine, the connections for the turbocharger oil feeder pipes may leak. This could result in oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold, increasing the risk of a fire.

Safety Risk: A fire could create the risk of injury

Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the turbocharger oil feeder pipe. Recall Details

  • MERCEDES-BENZ CL CLASS 2019 2020

  • MERCEDES-BENZ MAYBACH 2019
  • MERCEDES-BENZ S CLASS 2019 2020

Issue: On certain vehicles equipped with the Driver Assistance Package, a software problem may cause the Active Brake Assist feature not to work properly. This could affect the feature’s ability to help reduce or avoid a crash. While the system will still provide audible and visual warnings, the autonomous braking might not occur.

Safety Risk: If the brake assist system does not function properly, there could be an increased risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the radar sensor control unit software. Recall Details

  • BMW X5 2019

Issue: The wheel bolts on the left side of certain vehicles may not be properly tightened. This could cause the bolts to loosen or fall off and could result in a wheel separating from the vehicle.

Safety Risk: A wheel separation could increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that separates could also hit another person or vehicle.

Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the left side wheel bolts and ensure they are properly tightened. Owners are advised to not drive their vehicle until the recall repairs are completed. Recall Details
