The Passenger Vehicle Recalls for December, 2018 are as Follows

  • FORD FOCUS 2016 2017 2018

On certain vehicles equipped with a 1.0 L GTDI engine and 6-speed manual transmission, repeated high energy clutch slip can lead to premature clutch lining wear, reducing the mechanical properties of pressure plate material. Prolonged use, with a slipping clutch, could result in pressure plate fracture, which could cause breach of the clutch cover and transmission housing, potentially leading to a transmission fluid leak. A transmission fluid leak, in the presence of an ignition source, could increase the risk of a fire.

Correction: Dealers will evaluate the clutch for wear and replace as needed and will install updated software that will detect and prevent prolonged clutch slip. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2018-129.  Recall Details

  • AUDI A6 2015
  • AUDI A7 2015

On certain vehicles, the auxiliary heater connector may not have been properly inserted into the auxiliary heater. This could lead to increased resistance in the auxiliary heater circuit, increasing the risk of fire, causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace the auxiliary heater and connector if necessary. Recall Details

  • VOLKSWAGEN GOLF R 2018

On certain vehicles, an underhood fuel connector may not have been securely attached to the fuel supply line and could result in a fuel leak into the engine compartment. A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, could create the risk of a fire causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the fuel line connection and ensure it is securely attached. Recall Details

  • AUDI A3 2018
  • AUDI TT 2018

On certain vehicles, an underhood fuel connector may not have been securely attached to the fuel supply line and could result in a fuel leak into the engine compartment. A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, could create the risk of a fire causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the fuel line connection and ensure it is securely attached. Recall Details

  • MERCEDES-BENZ C CLASS 2018
  • MERCEDES-BENZ E CLASS 2018

On certain vehicles, the locking status of the steering coupling may not have been verified during assembly. If not correctly locked, the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and steering rack could loosen while driving, potentially resulting in complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the steering coupling and lock it, if necessary. Recall Details

  • HYUNDAI VELOSTER 2019

On certain vehicles, the impact sensors programming for the Airbag Control Unit (ACU) may be incorrect. In the event of a crash, if the ACU detects a fault related to the impact sensors, the airbag system may not deploy the airbag(s) properly, which could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.

Correction: Dealers will reprogram the Airbag Control Unit. Note: Only “Veloster N” vehicles are affected. Recall Details

  • LEXUS SC 430 2002 2003
  • TOYOTA COROLLA 2003 2004
  • TOYOTA SEQUOIA 2002 2003
  • TOYOTA TUNDRA 2003

On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury.

Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator or airbag assembly.

Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected. Vehicles may have had the original front passenger airbag inflator replaced as a “like-for-like” replacement under recall 2013-133 (Toyota Recall #’s SSC 193 & SSC 194) as a temporary remedy while evaluating a permanent remedy. These vehicles will receive the permanent remedy passenger airbag assembly under this recall. Recall Details

  • TOYOTA TACOMA 2018 2019

On certain vehicles, the brake master cylinder may contain a defect which could allow an internal brake fluid leak. This could reduce the performance of the front brakes, increasing stopping distances, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will replace the defective brake master cylinder. Recall Details

  • LEXUS LX 570 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019

On certain vehicles, the seat belt tension sensor wiring of the front passenger occupant classification system could fatigue and break over time. This could result in the front passenger airbag, knee airbag, and passenger seat-mounted side airbag to become deactivated, which in the event of crash, could increase the risk of injury to the occupant.

Correction: To be determined. Note: If the tension sensor wiring were to break it could cause the airbag warning light and the passenger airbag “OFF” indicator to illuminate. Recall Details

  • PONTIAC VIBE 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007

On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury.

Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag module.

Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected. Vehicles may have had the original front passenger airbag module replaced as a “like-for-like” replacement under recall 2015-272 (GM Recall #14491) as a temporary remedy while evaluating a permanent remedy. These vehicles will receive the permanent remedy passenger airbag assembly under this recall.

Recall Details

  • MERCEDES-BENZ C CLASS 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016
  • MERCEDES-BENZ CLS CLASS 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016
  • MERCEDES-BENZ E CLASS 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016
  • MERCEDES-BENZ GLC CLASS 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016
  • MERCEDES-BENZ GLE CLASS 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016
  • MERCEDES-BENZ ML CLASS 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016
  • MERCEDES-BENZ S CLASS 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016

On certain vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage during winter months (Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador), the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear housing may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. The resulting increase in steering effort could create the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will replace the mounting bolts and apply a corrosion protection coating to the gear housing and bolts. If the bolts bolt cannot be removed, a replacement steering gear will be installed. Recall Details

  • CHEVROLET MALIBU 2010 2011

On certain vehicles, the driver-front airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during an airbag deployment. If the driver-front airbag inflator ruptures during deployment, the airbag may not fully inflate, and the release of high-pressured gas may propel pieces of the inflator and airbag module into the occupant compartment. This could create or increase the risk of injury to occupant(s) in a crash.

Correction: Dealers will replace the driver-front airbag module. Recall Details

  • NISSAN MURANO 2009

On certain vehicles, the brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) may become contaminated by a reaction between brake fluid and internal anti-corrosion coatings. This could cause an internal control valve to stick open, potentially increasing brake pedal travel and/or stopping distances. This may create an increased risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 brake fluid. The HCU will then be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition. If necessary, HCU will be replaced. Recall Details

  • NISSAN ALTIMA 2015 2016 2017

On certain vehicles, the latch-lock cable may have been incorrectly routed in the path of the rear door window regulator. This could cause the rear passenger door to unlatch and open when the window is lowered, increasing the risk of injury to the rear passengers while the vehicle is in motion.

Correction: Dealers will inspect, and will add a wire harness clip to the door panel to reroute the cables through, and/or replace the rear door latch-lock cable assembly as necessary. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2017-030. Vehicles repaired as part of the previous recall will require re-inspection and repair. Recall Details

  • HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2018

On certain Elantra GT models, the sunroof motor may have been programmed incorrectly and may be unable to detect an obstruction while closing the sunroof. This may cause the sunroof not to retract when a person or an object is in its path, which could increase the risk of injury.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the sunroof motor and replace it if necessary. Recall Details
