The Passenger Vehicle Recalls for December 2017, are as Follows

  • Audi A6, A7 (2012 2013 2014)

On certain vehicles, the fuel line may weaken and leak over time due to an issue during the manufacturing process. This could result in a fuel leak, which in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury.

Correction:  Dealers will replace the affected fuel line. Recall Details

  • Hyundai Elantra (2013 2014)

On certain vehicles, the brake pedal stopper pad material could deteriorate over time and allow the stop lamp switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released. This could result in the stop lamps illuminating continuously, which would result in following road users being unaware of the driver’s intentions. Additionally, it could result in activation of the engine management system’s brake pedal override feature, the illumination of the traction control warning lamp, and/or the ability to move the shift lever without depressing the brake pedal, which could result in unintended vehicle movement. These conditions could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will replace the brake pedal stopper pad. Recall Details

  • Mitsubishi I-Miev (2016 2017)

On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury.

Correction:  Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected. Recall Details

  • Kia Forte (2012 2013 2014)

  • MERCEDES-BENZ Sprinter 2500 (2017)

On certain vehicles, electrostatic discharge, when combined with a broken clock spring and insufficient grounding of the steering components, could lead to an inadvertent deployment of the driver’s frontal airbag. Unintended airbag deployment, in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, could startle the driver, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants.

Correction: Dealers will add sufficient grounding to the steering components. Note: A broken clock spring would result in a driver airbag warning message appearing in the instrument cluster, as well as a red airbag warning lamp illuminating. Recall Details

  • Ford Ranger (2004 2005 2006)

Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 – Occupant Protection in Frontal Impacts and CMVSS 115 – Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Excess bulkhead insulation material may have been used during manufacturing, and as a result, could extend into the lower area of the windshield. This excess insulation could cover the VIN label, and potentially affect bonding of the windshield. If the windshield bonding is affected on the passenger side, in the event of a crash (where passenger frontal airbag deployment is warranted), the airbag may not deploy as designed, which would fail to meet the requirements of the standard, and increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the bulkhead insulation for excess material and remove it as necessary. In the event of compromised windshield bonding, the bonding will be reworked. Recall Details

  • Aston Martin DB9 (2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016)
  • Aston Martin DBS (2009 2010 2011 2012)
  • Aston Martin Rapide (2010 2011 2012 2013 2014)
  • Aston Martin Vanquish (2014)
  • Aston Martin DB9 (2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016)

On certain vehicles equipped with the 6-speed Touchtronic II automatic transmission, the Engine Control Module software may not communicate correctly with the Transmission Control Module when the key is removed from the docking station. If this occurs, the transmission park pawl may not engage properly, which could result in unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of injury and/or property damage.

Correction: Dealers will update the Transmission Control Module software. Recall Details

  • Aston Martin DB9 (2005 2006)

On certain vehicles, when the passenger (right side) front seat is operated to its fully reward position, it is possible that the seat track can compress and damage the battery supply cable. If this were to occur, the damaged wiring could contact and ground against the seat track, causing the wiring to overheat and melt, which could cause smoke and increase the risk of a fire causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the battery supply cable for damage, and install a routing block to ensure that the seat track cannot compress the battery supply cables. Recall Details

  • Ford Escape (2018)

On certain vehicles, the inflator diffuser installed in certain side curtain air bag modules may not have been manufactured correctly. If the vehicle were involved in a crash that warranted side curtain airbag deployment, this could potentially lead to the diffuser detaching. If the diffuser were to detach, it could become a projectile in the occupant compartment, and could cause a tear that could result in the side curtain airbag to not fully inflate. Both of these conditions could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Correction: Dealers will inspect both the right and left hand side curtain airbags to determine whether they are from the suspect population, and replace as necessary. Recall Details

  • Ford Mustang (2015 2016)

Certain vehicles may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 102 – Transmission Control Functions and (CMVSS) 114 – Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention. When the ignition state is changed from the key-on to the key-off position and the transmission is not in PARK (P), the instrument cluster may not illuminate the PRNDL display and the operator may not receive the key-in-ignition warning chime when the driver’s door is opened. If the driver does not set the parking brake, this could cause unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of injury and/or property damage.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the panoramic sunroof, and replace as necessary. Recall Details

  • Mercedes-Benz G-Class (2017)

On certain vehicles, the vacuum hose for the brake booster may not have been manufactured to specification which could cause the interior wall of the hose to delaminate. If this occurs, the vacuum supply of the brake booster may be constrained which could lead to increased braking effort by the driver, resulting in longer stopping distances which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace the vacuum hose as necessary. Recall Details

  • Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class (2016 2017)

Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 108 – Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. During the manufacturing process, the aim of the LED headlamps may have been incorrectly adjusted, which could cause them to fail to meet the requirements of the standard. Improperly aimed headlamps may reduce night time forward visibility, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will check the headlamp adjustment on the affected vehicles and adjust it, if necessary. Recall Details

  • Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class (2017)

Certain plug-in hybrid vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 110 – Tire Selection and Rims. The tire pressure certification label on the B-pillar incorrectly states seating capacity figures and tire dimensions on front and rear axles, and therefore fails to comply with requirements of the standard. In the event the incorrect tires were installed on the vehicle, the vehicle’s speed calibration would be incorrect.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the tire pressure certification label on the B-pillar, and replace it if necessary. Recall Details

  • Mercedes-Benz AMG GT (2017)

On certain vehicles equipped with AMG Performance Seats, the front passenger seat occupant classification system might not function as intended, which could lead to the misclassification of the seat occupant. This could result in a child seat possibly being classified as a person, or a light/small statured person being possibly classified as a child seat, which could incorrectly activate or deactivate the passenger frontal airbag. Both cases could increase the risk of injury to the front passenger seat occupant in the event of a crash.

Correction: Dealers will update the occupant classification system software, and if necessary, replace the passenger seat cushion. Recall Details

  • MERCEDES-BENZ GLE-Class, GLS-Class, S-Class (2017)

Certain vehicles may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 206 – Door Lock and Door Retention Components. The left (driver’s side) door locks may indicate a locked position, even when the door is not locked, which is contrary to the requirements of the standard.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the left door locks, and replace them as necessary. Recall Details

  • MERCEDES-BENZ AMG-GTG (2018)

On certain vehicles, the seatbelt may bind within the seatbelt guidance loop. If the seatbelt were to bind, a slack in the seatbelt may develop, which in the event of a crash, may not restrain the occupant as intended, and increase the risk of injury.

Correction: Dealers will remove the spacer disc in the seat belt guidance loop and add an additional sliding component to guide the belt. Recall Details

  • Hyundai Santa Fe Sport (2018)

On certain vehicles, the inflator diffuser installed in certain side curtain air bag modules may not have been manufactured correctly. If the vehicle were involved in a crash that warranted side curtain airbag deployment, this could potentially lead to the diffuser detaching. If the diffuser were to detach, it could become a projectile in the occupant compartment, and could cause a tear that could result in the side curtain airbag to not fully inflate. Both of these conditions could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Correction: Dealers will replace both the right and left hand side curtain airbags. Recall Details

  • BMW X1 (2012)

On certain vehicles, the positive battery cable connection to the fuse box could fail while the vehicle is being driven. This could interrupt the vehicle’s electrical system, resulting in engine stalling, loss of vehicle propulsion and a loss of function of various vehicle systems, such as lights. A loss of vehicle propulsion and electrical vehicle systems, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver’s reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.

Correction: Dealers will replace the positive battery cable connector with an updated version. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2013-048. Recall Details

  • Dodge Dakota (2005)

On certain vehicles equipped with heated seats, the driver and/or passenger heated seat cushion or seat back may overheat. This could increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant and increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property.

Correction: Dealers will enhance the seat heating system to include updated control features. Recall Details
